The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met this day at 4:15p.m., in room 160- S, Centre Block, the deputy chair, the Honourable Percy E. Downe, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Ataullahjan, Cordy, Dawson, Downe, Housakos, Johnson, Ngo, Oh, Poirier, Rivard and Smith, (Cobourg) P.C. (11).

In attendance: Natalie Mychajlyszyn and Pascal Tremblay, analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, the committee continued its study on foreign relations and international trade generally. WITNESSES:

Global Affairs Canada:

André Frenette, Director General, Latin America and Caribbean Bureau;

Sylvia Cesaratto, Director, South America;

Steve Guertin, Acting Deputy Director, Brazil and Argentina.

The deputy chair made an opening statement.

Mr. Frenette made an opening statement and, with Ms. Cesaratto and Mr. Guertin, answered questions.

At 5:05p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
