The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met in camera this day at 10:31 a.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable A. Raynell Andreychuk, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Ataullahjan, Bovey, Cools, Cordy, Dawson, Downe, Eaton, Housakos, Ngo, Saint-Germain, Wells and Woo (13).

In attendance: Natalie Mychajlyszyn and Pascal Tremblay, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament and Mila Pavlovic, Communications Officer (Committees), Communications Directorate.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, the committee continued its study on opportunities for strengthening cooperation with Mexico since the tabling, in June 2015, of the committee report entitled North American Neighbours: Maximizing Opportunities and Strengthening Cooperation for a more Prosperous Future. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 13.)

The chair made a statement.

It was agreed that senators' staff be permitted to remain in the room for the in camera portion of the meeting.

It was agreed that the draft report be adopted; and that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be empowered to approve the final version of the report, taking into consideration this meeting's discussions, including, if needed, the executive summary and recommendations, with any necessary editorial, grammatical and translation changes required; and that the steering committee be empowered to make decisions on behalf of the committee to publicize the report with the support of the Senate Communications Directorate, including determining the appropriate timing for tabling the report, and the tabling of the report.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, the committee continued its study on recent political and economic developments in Argentina in the context of their potential impact on regional and global dynamics, including on Canadian policy and interests, and other related matters. The chair made a statement.

It was agreed that the title of the Argentina report be changed to "A turning point in Canada-Argentina relations?''

At 11:10 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
