The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met this day at 10:32 a.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable A. Raynell Andreychuk, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Ataullahjan, Bovey, Cools, Cordy, Dawson, Downe, Eaton, Gold, Housakos, Marwah, Ngo, Oh, Saint-Germain and Woo (15).
In attendance: Natalie Mychajlyszyn and Pascal Tremblay, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament and Mila Pavlovic, Communications Officer (Committees), Communications Directorate.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, the committee continued its study on foreign relations and international trade generally. Eudoro Antonio González Dellán, Member of Parliament and Head of the Venezuelan delegation to the Parliament of Mercosur "Parlasur'' (by video conference).
The chair made a statement.
Mr. González made a statement and answered questions.
At 11:14 a.m., the committee suspended.
At 11:16 a.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to consider a draft report.
It was agreed that senators' staff be permitted to remain in the room during the in camera portion of the meeting.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Monday, May 8, 2017, the committee continued its examination of the subject matter of those elements contained in Division 1 of Part 4 of Bill C-44, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 22, 2016 and other measures. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 24.)
It was agreed that the report on the subject matter of those elements contained in Division 1 of Part 4 of Bill C-44 be adopted; and that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be empowered to approve the final version of the report, taking into consideration this meeting's discussions, including any necessary editorial, grammatical and translation changes required.
At 11:40 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
