The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met this day at 4 p.m., in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable A. Raynell Andreychuk, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Boehm, Bovey, Busson, Coyle, Dean, Greene, Housakos, Massicotte, Ngo and Tannas (11).

In attendance: Pascal Tremblay and Billy Joe Siekierski, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, the committee continued its study on foreign relations and international trade generally. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

Mark Gwozdecky, Assistant Deputy Minister, International Security and Political Affairs;

Heather Jeffrey, Assistant Deputy Minister, Consular, Security and Emergency Management;

Steve Verheul, Assistant Deputy Minister, Trade Policy and Negociations.

The chair made a statement.

The Honourable Minister Freeland made a statement and, together with Mr. Gwozdecky, Mr. Verheul and Ms. Jeffrey, answered questions.

At 5:15 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
