The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day at 6:46 p.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Lillian Eva Dyck, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beyak, Boniface, Christmas, Dyck, Enverga, Lovelace Nicholas, Mégie, Oh, Pate, Raine, Sinclair, Tannas and Watt (13).
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Martin (1).
In attendance: Brittany Collier, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, December 15, 2016, the committee continued its study on the new relationship between Canada and First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.

James Tully, FRSC, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Political Science, Law, Indigenous Governance and Philosophy, University of Victoria (by video conference);
Michael Asch, Professor, Department of Anthropology, University of Victoria (by video conference);
Joshua Nichols, Faculty of Law, University of Victoria (by video conference).
Messrs. Borrows, Tully and Asch made statements and, together with Mr. Nichols, answered questions.
At 8:05 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 8:13 p.m., the committee resumed.
Messrs. Borrows, Tully, Asch and Nichols continued to answer questions.
At 8:40 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
