The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day at 9 a.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Lillian Eva Dyck, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beyak, Boniface, Christmas, Dyck, Enverga, McPhedran, Mégie, Oh, Pate, Patterson, Raine, Sinclair, Tannas and Watt (14).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Plett (1).

In attendance: Brittany Collier and Sara Fryer, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, December 15, 2016, the committee continued its study on the new relationship between Canada and First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. (For complete text of order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 16.)

WITNESS:

As an individual:

J.R. (Jim) Miller, Professor Emeritus of History, University of Saskatchewan.

Mr. Miller made a statement and answered questions.

At 10:35 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:43 a.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to consider future business.

It was agreed that senators' staff be permitted to remain in the room during the in camera portion of the meeting.

At 11:17 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
