The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day at 6:45 p.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Lillian Eva Dyck, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Boniface, Brazeau, Christmas, Dyck, McPhedran, Pate, Patterson, Raine, Sinclair, Tannas and Watt (11).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Dupuis (1).

In attendance: Brittany Collier and Sara Fryer, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Geneviève Guindon and Marcy Galipeau, Senate Communications.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, February 2, 2016, the committee continued its study on the federal government's constitutional, treaty, political and legal responsibilities to First Nations, Inuit and Metis peoples. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.)

WITNESSES:

National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls:

Marion Buller, Chief Commissioner;

Michèle Audette, Commissioner;

Brian Eyolfson, Commissioner;

Qajaq Robinson, Commissioner.

Ms. Buller made a statement and answered questions.

Ms. Audette made a statement and, together with Mr. Eyolfson and Ms. Robinson answered questions.

At 7:58 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 8:05 p.m., the committee resumed.

At 8:48 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
