The Special Senate Committee on the Arctic met this day at 6:30 p.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the deputy chair, the Honourable Dennis Glen Patterson, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bovey, Coyle, Galvez, Neufeld, Oh, Pate and Patterson (7).
In attendance: Sara Fryer and Thai Nguyen, analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Marcy Galipeau, Chief, Strategic Communications, Communications Directorate.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, the committee continued its study on the significant and rapid changes to the Arctic, and impacts on original inhabitants. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)
WITNESSES:
Government of Northwest Territories:
The Honourable Bob McLeod, Premier of the Northwest Territories (by video conference).
Government of Nunavut:
The Honourable Paul Aarulaaq Quassa, Premier of Nunavut;
Virginia Mearns, Associate Deputy Minister, Executive and Intergovernmental Affairs.
Premier McLeod made a presentation and answered questions.
At 7:27 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 7:30 p.m., the committee resumed.
Premier Quassa made a presentation and, together with Ms. Mearns, answered questions.
At 8:34 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
