The Special Senate Committee on the Arctic met this day at 6:30 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bovey, Coyle, Day, Eaton, Galvez, Neufeld, Oh and Patterson (8).
In attendance: Sara Fryer and Thai Nguyen, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; Mila Pavlovic, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
The clerk informed the committee of a vacancy in the chair and presided over the election of the chair.
The Honourable Senator Oh moved:
That the Honourable Senator Patterson do take the chair of this committee.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
The clerk invited Senator Patterson to take the chair.
The chair presided over the election of the deputy chair.
The Honourable Senator Galvez moved:
That the Honourable Senator Bovey be deputy chair of this committee.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
At 6:35 p.m., pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, the committee continued its study on the significant and rapid changes to the Arctic and impacts on original inhabitants. Mr. Scott made a statement and answered questions.
At 7:32 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 7:36 p.m., the committee resumed.
Mr. Fortier, Mr. Burn and Mr. Heath each made a statement and answered questions.
At 8:30 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
