The Special Senate Committee on the Arctic met this day at 6:29 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Dennis Glen Patterson, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bovey, Coyle, Dasko, Eaton, Galvez, Neufeld, Oh and Patterson (8).
In attendance: Sara Fryer and Thai Nguyen, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, the committee continued its study on the significant and rapid changes to the Arctic, and impacts on original inhabitants. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)
WITNESSES:
Nunatsiavut Government:
Belinda Webb, Deputy Minister, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism.
Parks Canada:
Gary Baikie, Superintendent, Torngat Mountains National Park.
Inuit Art Foundation:
Alysa Procida, Executive Director and Publisher (by video conference).
West Baffin Eskimo Cooperative:
William Huffman, Marketing Director.
Mr. Baikie and Ms. Webb each made a statement and answered questions.
At 7:17 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 7:22 p.m., the committee resumed.
Mr. Huffman and Ms. Procida each made a statement and answered questions.
At 8:33 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
