The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day at 4:23 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable David Tkachuk, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Beyak, Black, Campbell, Enverga, Greene, Massicotte, Ringuette, Smith (Saurel), Tannas and Tkachuk (11).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Day and Wallin (2).

In attendance: Brett Stuckey and Dylan Gowans, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, February 16, 2016, the committee began its study on the issues pertaining to internal barriers to trade.

APPEARING:

The Honourable Navdeep Bains, P.C., M.P., Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development.

WITNESSES:

Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada:

John Knubley, Deputy Minister;

Mitch Davies, Assistant Deputy Minister and Internal Trade Promotion Office, Strategic Policy Sector;

Nipun Vats, Director General and Internal Trade Promotion Office, Strategic Policy Sector.

The chair made a statement.

Minister Bains made a statement and, together with Mr. Knubley, Mr. Davies and Mr. Vats, answered questions.

At 5:23 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
