The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day at 10:32 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable David Tkachuk, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Campbell, Day, Greene, Patterson, Ringuette, Smith, Tannas and Tkachuk (8).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Wallin (1).

In attendance: Brett Capstick and Michaël Lambert-Racine, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, the committee continued its study and report on the development of a national corridor in Canada as a means of enhancing and facilitating commerce and internal trade. (For the full text of the order of reference, see Issue No. 8 of the committee proceedings.)

WITNESSES:

Canadian International Freight Forwarders Association:

Ruth Snowden, Executive Director (by video conference).

Railway Association of Canada:

Michael Bourque, President and Chief Executive Officer.

The chair made a statement.

Ms. Snowden made a statement and answered questions.

At 11:06 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 11:08 a.m., the committee resumed.

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Bourque made a statement and answered questions.

At 11:59 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 12:02 p.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to consider a draft agenda (future business).

At 12:14 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
