The Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs met this day at 10:33 a.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Serge Joyal, P.C., presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Batters, Boisvenu, Carignan, P.C., Duffy, Fraser, Gold, Joyal, P.C., McIntyre, Moncion, Pate, Sinclair and White (12).
In attendance: Julian Walker and Maxime Charron-Tousignant, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, October 6, 2016, the committee began its examination of Bill S-202, An Act to amend the Divorce Act (shared parenting plans).
WITNESS:
The Honourable Senator Anne C. Cools, sponsor of the bill.
The chair made a statement.
The Honourable Senator Cools made a statement and answered questions.
At 11:30 a.m., the committee proceeded to consider a legislative budget application for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2018.
It was agreed that the following legislative budget application, be approved for submission to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration.
Summary of budget:
General Expenses $6,000 Hospitality — meals (0410) $1,000 Books, newspapers and manuscripts (0702) $4,500 Mischellaneous expenses (0798) $500 TOTAL $6,000
It was agreed that the letter from Senior Associate Chief Justice Robert Pidgeon, be appended to the committee proceedings (see Appendix 1120-04-02-1.42/LCJC-SS-1, 33 "1'').
At 11:39 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
