The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 5:03 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Fabian Manning, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bovey, Christmas, Downe, Duffy, Dyck, Enverga, Gold, Manning, McInnis, Munson, Plett, Poirier and Raine (13).

In attendance: Odette Madore, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Adam Thompson, Committee Clerk, Committees Directorate.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

The Honourable Senator McInnis moved:

That the Honourable Senator Munson do take the deputy chair of this committee.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

At 5:08 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:09 p.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to consider a draft agenda (future business).

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, April 14, 2016, the committee continued its study on Maritime Search and Rescue activities, including current challenges and opportunities. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 4.)

It was agreed:

That the chair seek the authority of the Senate to extend the reporting date of this study until May 31, 2018.

At 5:40 p.m., pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, November 23, 2016, the committee continued its consideration of Bill S-203, An Act to amend the Criminal Code and other Acts (ending the captivity of whales and dolphins). At 6:12 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
