The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 5:07 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Fabian Manning, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Christmas, Hartling, Manning, Poirier, Raine and Ringuette (6).

In attendance: Odette Madore, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, April 14, 2016, the committee continued its study on Maritime Search and Rescue activities, including current challenges and opportunities. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 4).

WITNESSES:

As individuals:

Michael Byers, Professor and Canadian Research Chair in Global Politics and International Law, University of British Columbia (by video conference);

Dylan Clark, Program Manager, Climate Change Adaptation Research Group, McGill University.

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Clark made a statement and answered questions.

Mr. Byers made a statement and answered questions.

At 6:13 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
