The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 8:04 a.m., in room B30, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Fabian Manning, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Busson, Christmas, Francis, Gold, Manning, McInnis, Poirier and Wells (8).

In attendance: Daniele Lafrance, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament and Ben Silverman, Communications Officer, Senate Communications Directorate.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on December 11, 2018, the committee continued its consideration of Bill C-68, An Act to amend the Fisheries Act and other Acts in consequence. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 40.)

WITNESSES:

Canadian Independent Fish Harvesters' Federation:

Melanie Sonnenberg, President.

Prince Edward Island Fisherman's Association:

Ian MacPherson, Executive Director.

Fisheries Council of Canada:

Paul Lansbergen, President (by video conference).

The chair made a statement.

Ms. Sonnenberg made a statement and, together with Mr. MacPherson, answered questions.

Mr. Lansbergen made a statement and answered questions.

At 9:17 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 9:25 a.m., the committee resumed in camera, pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), to consider a draft agenda (future business).

At 9:34 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
