The Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day at 12:59 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Daniel Lang, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beyak, Boisvenu, Dagenais, Harder, P.C., Jaffer, Kenny, Lang, Lankin, P.C., McPhedran, Moncion, Pate, Saint-Germain and White (13).
Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Day, Griffin and Wetston (3).
In attendance: Mireille Laforge, Committees Directorate.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, the committee began its examination of Bill C-22, An Act to establish the National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians and to make consequential amendments to certain Acts.

Minister Goodale and Minister Chagger each made a statement and, together with Mr. McCowan, Ms. Sheehy and Mr. Brown, answered questions.
At 2:43 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 2:51 p.m., the committee resumed.
Lieutenant-General (Retired) the Honourable Roméo Dallaire and the Honourable Hugh Segal each made a statement and, together, answered questions.
At 3:44 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 3:50 p.m., the committee resumed.
Mr. Therrien made a statement and answered questions.
At 4:23 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 4:25 p.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera for the consideration a draft report.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Monday, May 8, 2017, the committee continued its examination of the subject matter of those elements contained in Divisions 12 and 19 of Part 4 of Bill C-44, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 22, 2017 and other measures. It was agreed that senators' staff be permitted to remain in the room for today's meeting.
It was agreed that the report be adopted as amended.
At 5:02 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
