The Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day at 3:01 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Gwen Boniface, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Boisvenu, Boniface, Brazeau, Dagenais, McIntyre, McPhedran, Oh and Richards (8).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Gold and Griffin (2).

In attendance: Daniel McBryde and Constance Naud-Arcand, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, January 26, 2016, the committee continued its examination Canada's national security and defence policies, practices, circumstances and capabilities. WITNESS:

National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces:

General Jonathan Vance, Chief of the Defence Staff.

The chair made a statement.

General Vance made a statement and answered questions.

At 4:32 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
