The Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day at 3 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Gwen Boniface, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Boisvenu, Boniface, Dagenais, Jaffer, McIntyre, McPhedran, Oh and Richards (8).

In attendance: Daniel McBryde and Constance Naud-Arcand, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Mila Pavlovic, Communications Officer, Senate Communications Directorate.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, January 26, 2016, the committee continued its examination and report on Canada's national security and defence policies, practices, circumstances and capabilities. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

Topic: Sexual Harassment and Violence in Defence and Security Institutions

WITNESSES:

Maya Eichler, Assistant Professor, Department of Political and Canadian Studies, Mount Saint Vincent University;

Nancy Taber, Associate Professor, Department of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies in Education, Brock University;

Stéfanie Von Hlatky, Associate Professor, Centre for International and Defence Policy, Queen's University (by video conference).

The chair made a statement.

Colonel Drapeau, Ms. Eichler, Ms. Taber and Ms. Von Hlatky made statements and answered questions.

At 4:32 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 4:34 p.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to consider a draft agenda (future business).

At 4:37 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
