The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met in camera this day at 9:30 a.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Dennis Dawson, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Black, Boisvenu, Dawson, Greene, MacDonald, Plett and Unger (7).
In attendance: Jed Chong, Terrence (Terry) Thomas and Allison Padova, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee considered a draftagenda (future business).
It was agreed that senators' staff be permitted to remain in the room during in camera portion of the meeting.
It was agreed that the chair be authorized to seek authority from the Senate for the following order of reference:
That the Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications be authorized to examine and report on emerging issues related to its mandate under rule 12-7(6);
That it be further authorized to examine and report on the elements related to its mandate found in the ministerial mandate letters of the Minister of Transport, the Minister of Infrastructure and Communities and the Minister of Canadian Heritage; and
That the committee submit its final report no later than June 30, 2017.
It was agreed that the chair write to the Minister of Transport, the Minister of Infrastructure and Communities and the Minister of Canadian Heritage to invite them to appear at their earliest convenience.
It was agreed that the committee adopt the draft first report, prepared in accordance with rule 12-26(2).
At 10:13 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
