The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met in camera this day at 6:47 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Dennis Dawson, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bovey, Dawson, Dean, Doyle, Eggleton, P.C., Galvez, Greene, Griffin, MacDonald, Mercer and Saint-Germain (11).

In attendance: Jed Chong and Nicole Sweeney, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Geneviève Sicard, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, the committee continued its study on the development of a strategy to facilitate the transport of crude oil to eastern Canadian refineries and to ports on the East and West coasts of Canada. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.)

It was agreed that senators' staff be permitted to remain in the room while the committee met in camera.

Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee began its review of a draft report.

It was agreed that the draft report not be adopted.

It was agreed that the interim report, tabled on December 7, 2016, be the only report produced for this study.

It was agreed that the chair be authorized to present a motion in the chamber requesting a government response to the interim report.

At 7:44 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
