The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day at 6:47 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Dennis Dawson, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Boisvenu, Bovey, Cormier, Dawson, Eggleton, P.C., Galvez, Griffin, MacDonald and Mercer (9).

In attendance: Jed Chong and Nicole Sweeney, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, the committee continued its examination of the regulatory and technical issues related to the deployment of connected and automated vehicles. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

WITNESS:

Office of the Governor of Arizona, United States:

Matthew Clark, Policy Advisor (by video conference).

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Clark made a statement and answered questions.

At 7:39 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 8 p.m., the committee resumed.

The clerk informed the committee of the unavoidable absences of the chair and deputy chair during the second part of the meeting and presided over the election of an acting chair.

The Honourable Senator Eggleton moved:

That the Honourable Senator Bovey be the acting chair.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

The acting chair took the chair.

At 8:03 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 8:08 p.m., the committee resumed.

It was agreed that the documents submitted by Mr. Bernard Soriano, Deputy Director at the California Department of Motor Vehicles, be considered part of the papers and evidence received by the committee during its special study on the regulatory and technical issues related to the deployment of connected and automated vehicles.

At 8:12 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
