The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day at 9:30 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable David Tkachuk, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Boisvenu, Cormier, Dasko, Dawson, Gagné, Galvez, MacDonald, Manning, Miville-Dechêne, Simons and Tkachuk (11).

In attendance: Zackery Shaver, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Ben Silverman, Communications Officer, Senate Communications Directorate.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, October 18, 2018, the committee continued its examination of Bill C-64, An Act respecting wrecks, abandoned, dilapidated or hazardous vessels and salvage operations. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 43.)

Patrick White, Founder and Executive Director.

Paul L. Bender, Captain (Ret'd).

Parks Canada:

Ellen Bertrand, Director, Cultural Heritage Strategies;

Mary Lou Doyle, Manager, Cultural Heritage Policies and Legislation;

Marc-André Bernier, Underwater Archaeology Manager.

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Bender, Mr. White and Mr. Caldwell made statements and answered questions.

At 10:32 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:38 a.m., the committee resumed.

Ms. Bertrand made a statement and, together with Mr. Bernier, answered questions.

At 11:19 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
