The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day at 9:30 a.m., in room W110, 1 Wellington St., the chair, the Honourable David Tkachuk, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Boisvenu, Cormier, Dasko, Dawson, Gagné, Galvez, MacDonald, Manning, Miville-Dechêne, Seidman, Simons and Tkachuk (12).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator McCoy (1).

In attendance: Jed Chong and Zackery Shaver, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Ben Silverman, Communications Officer, Senate Communications Directorate.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, the committee continued its examination of Bill C-48, An Act respecting the regulation of vessels that transport crude oil or persistent oil to or from ports or marine installations located along British Columbia's north coast. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 46.)

The chair made a statement.

Ms. Krause and Ms. Rochester made statements and answered questions.

At 10:32 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:38 a.m., the committee resumed.

The Honourable Senator Miville-Dechêne moved:

That Tzeporah Berman of Stand.earth be invited to appear before the committee as a witness the next evening.

After debate, the question being put on the motion, it was negatived by a show of hands.

Mr. Kariya and Ms. Fitzgerald made statements and answered questions.

At 11:35 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
