The Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs met this day at 2:33 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Joseph A. Day, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beyak, Day and White (3).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Wallin (1).

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday May 3, 2016, and delegated to the subcommittee on Wednesday May 4, 2016, by the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence, the subcommittee continued its examination of the subject matter of those elements contained in Division 2 of Part 4 of Bill C-15, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 22, 2016 and other measures.

WITNESSES:

Office of the Veterans Ombudsman:

Sharon Squire, Deputy Veterans Ombudsman and Executive Director of Operations.

Royal Canadian Legion:

Ray McInnis, Director, Service Bureau.

Equitas Society:

Brian McKenna, Veterans Council Representative (by video conference).

Mr. McKenna, Mr. McInnis and Ms. Squire each made a statement and, together, answered questions.

At 3:23 p.m., the subcommittee adjourned to the call of the chair.
