Pursuant to the order of the Senate of March 30, 2021, the Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day by videoconference at 9 a.m. [ET], the chair, the Honourable Diane F. Griffin, presiding. This meeting is considered to have taken place in the parliamentary precinct.
Members of the committee present videoconference: The Honourable Senators Black (Ontario), Deacon (Nova Scotia), Forest, Griffin, Hartling, Mégie, Mercer, Oh and Petitclerc (9).
Participating in the meeting: Gaëtane Lemay, Procedural Clerk and Sébastien Payet, Legislative Clerk, Committees Directorate; Joanne Markle LaMontagne, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, May 27, 2021, the committee began its examination of Bill C-208, An Act to amend the Income Tax Act (transfer of small business or family farm or fishing corporation).
WITNESSES (by videoconference):
Larry Maguire, M.P., Brandon—Souris, sponsor of the bill.

Brian Janzen, Senior Tax Manager.
Canadian Federation of Independent Business:
Corinne Pohlmann, Senior Vice President, National Affairs and Partnerships.
Canadian Federation of Agriculture:
Scott Ross, Assistant Executive Director.
Canadian Council of Professional Fish Harvesters:
Dr. Rick Williams, Research Director.
It was agreed that, for the duration of the session, two staff members for the chair and one staff member for each committee member present be allowed access to in camera meetings held by videoconference.
The chair made a statement.
Mr. Maguire made a statement and answered questions.
Mr. Janzen made a statement and answered questions.
Ms. Pohlmann and Mr. Ross each made a statement.
At 10:10 a.m., the committee suspended.
At 10:12 a.m., the committee resumed.
Dr. Williams made a statement and, together with Ms. Pohlmann and Mr. Ross, answered questions
At 10:54 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
