Pursuant to the order of the Senate of November 25, 2021, the Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, and by videoconference, at 9:04 a.m. ET the chair, the Honourable Robert Black, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Black and Oh (2).

Members of the committee present by videoconference: The Honourable Senators Cotter, Deacon (Nova Scotia), Griffin, Klyne, Marwah, Mercer, Petitclerc, Poirier, Simons and Wetston (10).

Other senators present by videoconference: The Honourable Senators Jaffer and Quinn (2).

Participating in the meeting: Mark Palmer, Procedural Clerk, Committees Directorate; Corentin Bialais and Offah Obale, analysts, Library of Parliament; Ben Silverman, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, December 9, 2021, the committee began its consideration of Bill S-222, An Act to amend the Department of Public Works and Government Services Act (use of wood).

WITNESSES:

The Honourable Senator Diane F. Griffin, sponsor of the bill (by videoconference);

Richard Cannings, Member of Parliament, South Okanagan—West Kootenay, British Columbia.

The Honourable Senator Diane F. Griffin and Richard Cannings each made a statement and answered questions.

At 9:57 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10 a.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to discuss a draft agenda (future business).

It was agreed that the committee allow the transcription of the in camera portion of today's meeting, that one copy be kept with the clerk of the committee for consultation by committee members or staff present and that the transcript be destroyed by the clerk when authorized to do so by the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, but no later than at the end of this parliamentary session.

At 10:53 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
