The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met in camera this day at 9:02 a.m., in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Robert Black, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Black, Burey, Cotter, McNair, Oh, Robinson and Simons (7).

Participating in the meeting: Joanne Markle LaMontagne, Analyst, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, the committee continued its study of the status of soil health in Canada.

Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee discussed in camera a draft report.

It was agreed that the committee allow the transcription of the in camera meeting today, that one copy be kept with the clerk of the committee for consultation by committee members and/or staff, and that the transcript be destroyed by the clerk when authorized to do so by the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, but no later than at the end of this parliamentary session.

It was agreed:

That the draft report, be adopted, in both official languages;

That the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be empowered to approve the final version of the report, in both official languages, including the executive summary and the final design of the report, taking into consideration this meeting’s discussions, and with any necessary editorial, grammatical and translation changes required;

That the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be empowered to make decisions on behalf of the committee to publicize the report with the support of the Senate Communications Directorate, including determining the appropriate timing for tabling the report; and

That the chair be authorized to table the report in the Senate or deposit the report with the Clerk of the Senate if the Senate is not then sitting, in both official languages, and to request a complete and detailed response from the government.

At 10:26 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
