The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Commerce and the Economy met this day at 4:14 p.m., in room W110, 1 Wellington St., the chair, the Honourable Pamela Wallin, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Deacon (Nova Scotia), Galvez, Gignac, Loffreda, Marshall, Martin, Miville-Dechêne, Petten, Ringuette, Wallin and Yussuff (12).

Participating in the meeting: Brett Howard and Adriane Yong, analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, June 8, 2023, the committee began its consideration of Bill S-243, An Act to enact the Climate-Aligned Finance Act and to make related amendments to other Acts.

WITNESSES:

The Honourable Senator Rosa Galvez, sponsor of the bill.

Canadian Bankers Association:

Darren Hannah, Senior Vice-President, Financial Stability and Banking Policy;

Bryan Radeczy, Director, Financial Stability.

As individuals:

Karine Péloffy, Parliamentary and Legal Affairs Advisor, Office of the Honourable Senator Rosa Galvez;

Amr Addas, Professor and Strategic Advisor for Sustainability, John Molson School of Business, Concordia University.

The Honourable Senator Galvez made a statement and, together with Amr Addas and Karine Péloffy, answered questions.

At 5:15 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:19 p.m., the committee resumed.

Darren Hannah made a statement and, together with Bryan Radeczy, answered questions.

At 6:15 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
