The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day, in the Confederation Room, The Fairmont Royal York Hotel, Toronto, Ontario, at 9:05 a.m., the Chair, the Honourable Michael Kirby, presiding.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 1, 2001, the Committee continued itsconsideration of the special study on the state of the health care system in Canada. (For complete text of Order of Reference see Proceedings of the Committee, Issue No.2.)

Dr. McGowan made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 10:00 a.m., Walter Robinson, Stephen Allen and Edward Buffett made opening statements and answered questions.

At 11:30 a.m., Dr. Lexchin, Dr. Rachlis and Dr. Bhimji made opening statements and with the assistance of Mr. Barry answered questions.

At 1:30 p.m., Ms Jones, Mr. Fruitman and Dr. Chan made opening statements and answered questions.

At 2:30 p.m., Mr. Goodhand, Ms. Dunlop and Mr. McDole made opening statements and answered questions.

At 3:40 p.m., Dr. Sky, Mr. Lozon and Mr. O'Connor made opening statements and answered questions.

At 5:50 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
