The Special Senate Committee on Senate Modernization met this day at 12:01 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Thomas Johnson McInnis, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Cools, Eggleton, P.C., Frum, Greene, Joyal, P.C., McCoy, McInnis, McIntyre, Stewart Olsen, Tannas, Tardif and Wells (13).
Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Lankin, P.C., and Mercer (2).
In attendance: Sebastian Spano and David Groves, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, October 6, 2016, the committee began its consideration of Bill S-213, An Act to amend the Constitution Act, 1867 and the Parliament of Canada Act (Speakership of the Senate).
WITNESS:
The Honourable Senator Terry M. Mercer, sponsor of the bill.
The chair made a statement.
The Honourable Senator Mercer made a statement and answered questions.
At 1:28 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
