The Special Senate Committee on Senate Modernization met this day at 1:01 p.m., in room 257, East Block, for the purpose of holding its reorganization meeting, pursuant to the order of the Senate of November 7, 2017.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Dean, Eggleton, P.C., Fraser, Greene, Joyal, P.C., Lankin, P.C., Massicotte, McCoy, McInnis, Ngo, Stewart Olsen, Verner, P.C., and Wells (14).

In attendance: David Groves and Marc-André Roy, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of the Senate of November 7, 2017, the clerk of the committee presided over the election of the chair.

The Honourable Senator McInnis moved:

That the Honourable Senator Greene do take the chair of this committee.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

The Honourable Senator Wells moved:

That the Honourable Senator Joyal, P.C., be deputy chair of this committee.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

The Honourable Senator Joyal, P.C., moved:

That the Honourable Senator McInnis, P.C., be deputy chair of this committee.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

The Honourable Senator Greene moved:

That the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be composed of the chair and the two deputy chairs; and

That the subcommittee be empowered to make decisions on behalf of the committee with respect to its agenda, to invite witnesses, and to schedule hearings.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

At 1:06 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
