The Special Senate Committee on Senate Modernization met this day at 12:05 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Stephen Greene, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Brazeau, Deacon (Ontario), Frum, Greene, Joyal, P.C., Maltais, McInnis, Ravalia and Verner, P.C. (9).
In attendance: David Groves and Laurence Brosseau, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Friday, December 11, 2015, the committee continued its consideration of methods to make the Senate more effective within the current constitutional framework. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)
WITNESS:
The Honourable Senator Joseph A. Day, Senate Liberal Leader.
The chair made a statement.
The Honourable Senator Day made a statement and answered questions.
At 1:15 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 1:18 p.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to consider a draft report.
It was agreed that senators' staff be permitted to remain in the room during the in camera portion of the meeting.
At 1:30 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
