The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 5:08 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the deputy chair, the Honourable Terry Mercer, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beyak, Dagenais, Mercer, Merchant, Moore, Ogilvie, Plett, Smith (Saurel), Tardif and Unger (10).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Pratte (1).

In attendance: Aïcha Coulibaly, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, January 28, 2016, the committee continued its study on international market access priorities for the Canadian agricultural and agri-food sector. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

WITNESSES:

Ontario Broiler Hatching Egg and Chick Commission:

William Bearss, Chair, Agri-food (poultry);

Jack Greydanus, Director.

Chicken Farmers of Ontario:

Rob Dougans, President and CEO;

Ed Benjamins, Vice Chair of the Board.

Freight Management Association of Canada:

Bob Ballantyne, President.

The deputy chair made a statement.

Mr. Bearss and Mr. Benjamins made a statement and, together with Mr. Greydanus and Mr. Dougans, answered questions.

At 6:06 p.m., Senator Plett took the chair.

At 6:12 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 6:17 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Ballantyne made a statement and answered questions.

At 7 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the deputy chair.
