The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 8 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, for the purpose of holding its reorganization meeting, pursuant to the order of the Senate of November 7, 2017.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Dagenais, Doyle, Gagné, Griffin, Maltais, Mercer, Petitclerc, Pratte, Tardif and Woo (10).

In attendance: Aïcha Coulibaly, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Geneviève Guindon, Communications Officer, Senate Communications Directorate.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of the Senate of November 7, 2017, the clerk of the committee presided over the election of the chair.

The Honourable Senator Petitclerc moved:

That the Honourable Senator Griffin do take the chair of this committee.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

The Honourable Senator Griffin took the chair.

The Honourable Senator Dagenais moved:

That the Honourable Senator Maltais be deputy chair of this committee.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

The Honourable Senator Woo moved:

That the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be composed of the chair, the deputy chair, and one other member of the committee, to be designated after the usual consultation; and

That the subcommittee be empowered to make decisions on behalf of the committee with respect to its agenda, to invite witnesses, and to schedule hearings.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

It was agreed that the committee proceed in camera.

At 8:07 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 8:09 a.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to consider a draft agenda (future business).

At 8:57 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
