The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 6 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Diane F. Griffin, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Ataullahjan, Black (Ontario), Dagenais, Doyle, Gagné, Griffin, Maltais, Mercer, Oh, Petitclerc and Woo (11).

In attendance: Aïcha Coulibaly, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Síofra McAllister, Communications Officer, Senate Communications Directorate.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 1, 2018, the committee continued its study on issues relating to agriculture and forestry generally. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 47.) Topic: The composting of cannabis residues and potential impacts on the environment

Deron Caplan, PhD candidate, University of Guelph (by video conference).

Topic: Regulatory framework regarding agricultural products used for cannabis production

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Lefsrud and Mr. Dixon made statements and, together with Mr. Zheng and Mr. Caplan, answered questions.

At 6:57 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 7:02 p.m., the committee resumed.

At 7:56 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
