The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 8:01 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Diane F. Griffin, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Black (Ontario), Dagenais, Doyle, Gagné, Griffin, Maltais, Marwah, Mercer, Oh and Petitclerc (10).

In attendance: Aïcha Coulibaly, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Síofra McAllister, Communications Officer, Senate Communications Directorate.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 15, 2018, the committee continued its study on how the value-added food sector can be more competitive in global markets. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 47.)

WITNESSES:

Canadian Canola Growers Association:

Jack Froese, President;

Catherine Scovil, Director of Government Relations.

Canadian Oilseed Processors Association:

Chris Vervaet, Executive Director.

Canola Council of Canada:

Brian Innes, Vice-President, Public Affairs.

Canadian Association of Importers and Exporters:

Joy Nott, President and Chief Executive Officer;

Keith Mussar, Vice President Regulatory Affairs (by video conference).

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Innes, Mr. Froese and Mr. Vervaet made statements and, together with Ms. Scovil, answered questions.

At 9:03 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 9:07 a.m., the committee resumed.

Ms. Nott made a statement and, together with Mr. Mussar, answered questions.

At 10:05 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
