The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 8 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the deputy chair, the Honourable Ghislain Maltais, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Ataullahjan, Black (Ontario), Dagenais, Doyle, Gagné, Griffin, Maltais, Marwah, Mercer and Oh (10).

In attendance: Aïcha Coulibaly and Corentin Bialais, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 15, 2018, the committee continued its study on how the value-added food sector can be more competitive in global markets. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 47.)

Martin Lavoie, President and Chief Executive Officer.

Canadian Pork Council:

Gary Stordy, Director, Government and Corporate Affairs.

Canadian Vintners Association:

Dan Paszkowski, President and Chief Executive Officer.

Spirits Canada:

Jan Westcott, President and Chief Executive Officer;

CJ Hélie, Executive Vice President.

The deputy chair made a statement.

Mr. Lavoie and Mr. Stordy made statements and answered questions.

At 9:02 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 9:07 a.m., the committee resumed, the chair, the Honourable Diane F. Griffin, presiding.

Mr. Paszkowski and Mr. Westcott made statements and, together with Mr. Hélie, answered questions.

At 9:57 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:01 a.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to consider a draft report.

At 10:09 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
