The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day at 9:32 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Larry Smith, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Campbell, Eaton, Marshall, Mitchell, Neufeld and Smith (Saurel) (7).

In attendance: Alex Smith and Sylvain Fleury, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, February 23, 2016, the committee continued its examination of the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2017 (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No 4.)

WITNESSES:

Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat:

Brian Pagan, Assistant Secretary, Expenditure Management Sector;

Marcia Santiago, Executive Director, Expenditure Management Sector.

The chair made an opening statement.

Mr. Pagan made a statement on the Main Estimates 2016-17 and, together with Ms. Santiago, answered questions.

At 11:09 a.m., Mr. Pagan made a statement on public accounts and other financial documents and, together with Ms. Santiago, answered questions.

At 11:28 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 11:29 a.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to discuss a draft agenda.

At 11:39 a.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
