The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day at 6:45 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Larry Smith, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable senators Bellemare, Eaton, Marshall, Mitchell, Mockler, Smith (Saurel) and Tkachuk (7).

In attendance: Alex Smith and Sylvain Fleury, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, February 23, 2016, the committee continued its examination of the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2017. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 4.)

WITNESSES:

Natural Resources Canada:

Kami Ramcharan, Assistant Deputy Minister and Chief Financial Officer, Corporate Management and Services Sector.

Environment and Climate Change Canada:

Carol Najm, Assistant Deputy Minister and Chief Financial Officer, Finance Branch;

Dan McDougall, Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic Policy Branch.

Atomic Energy of Canada Limited:

Richard Sexton, Chief Transition Officer (Acting), Vice President, Decommissioning and Waste Management Oversight;

Shannon Quinn, Vice President, Science, Technology and Commercial Oversight.

Ms. Ramcharan, Ms. Najm and Mr. Sexton each made a statement and, together with Ms. Quinn and Mr. McDougall, answered questions.

At 8:43 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
