The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day at 6:45 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Percy Mockler, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Deacon (Nova Scotia), Deacon (Ontario), Forest, Mockler, Moncion, Neufeld and Pratte (8).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Oh (1).

In attendance: Alex Smith and Shaowei Pu, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, the committee continued its consideration of the expenditures set out in the main estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2019. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 67.)

Atomic Energy of Canada Limited:

Richard Sexton, President and Chief Executive Officer;

Shannon Quinn, Vice President, Science, Technology and Commercial Oversight.

Canadian Air Transport Security Authority:

Michael Saunders, President and Chief Executive Officer;

Nancy Fitchett, Acting Vice President, Corporate Affairs and Chief Financial Officer.

National Research Council Canada:

Iain Stewart, President;

Dale MacMillan, Vice President, Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer.

DECLARATIONS OF PRIVATE INTERESTS

At 6:47 p.m., pursuant to rule 15-7(1) and subsection 12(1) of the Ethics and Conflict of Interest Code for Senators, a declaration of private interest was made as follows:

The Honourable Senator Deacon (Nova Scotia), by oral declaration, as part of the study on the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2019, declared that one of his companies benefited from National Research Council Canada's Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP).

At 6:50 p.m., Mr. Sexton, Mr. Saunders and Mr. Stewart each made a statement and, together with Ms. Quinn and Ms. Fitchett, answered questions.

At 8:15 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
