The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day at 1:35 p.m., in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Percy Mockler, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Boehm, Deacon (Ontario), Eaton, Forest, Forest- Niesing, Klyne, Lankin, P.C., Marshall, Mockler, Neufeld and Pratte (11).
In attendance: Alex Smith and Shaowei Pu, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, June 18, 2019, the committee began its consideration of the subject matter of Bill C-101, An Act to amend the Customs Tariff and the Canadian International Trade Tribunal Act.
WITNESSES:
Department of Finance Canada:
Patrick Halley, Director General, International Trade Policy Division, International Trade and Finance;
Michèle Govier, Senior Director, Trade Rules, International Trade Policy Division, International Trade and Finance.
Global Affairs Canada:
John Layton, Executive Director, Trade Remedies and North America Trade.
The chair called the meeting to order.
Mr.Halley made a statement and, together with Ms.Govier and Mr. Layton, answered questions.
At 2:46 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 2:48 p.m., pursuant to rule12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to consider a draft report.
It was agreed that senators' staff be permitted to remain in the room for the in camera portion of the meeting.
It was agreed that the draft report, as amended, be adopted.
It was agreed that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be empowered to approve the final version of the report taking into consideration this meeting's discussions, and with any necessary editorial, grammatical and translation changes required.
It was agreed that the chair be authorized to table the report in the Senate, at the earliest opportunity.
At 3:11 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
