The Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages met in camera this day at 5:04 p.m., pursuant to rule 12- 16(1)(d), in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable René Cormier, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cormier, Gagné, Maltais, McIntyre, Mégie, Moncion, Poirier and Smith (8).
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Miville-Dechêne (1).
In attendance: Marie-Ève Hudon, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; Angus Wilson, Legislative Clerk, Senate Committees Directorate.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
The committee considered a draft agenda (future business).
It was agreed to adopt the update to the fall 2018 work plan, and the updates to the draft itinerary for the trip to New Brunswick.
At 5:14 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 5:18 p.m., the committee resumed in public.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, April 6, 2017, the committee continued to examine and report on Canadians' views about modernizing the Official Languages Act. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 12.)

Linda Cardinal, Professor and holder of the Research Chair in Canadian Francophonie and Public Policies, University of Ottawa;
Bernadette Sarazin, Co-Owner, Brio Strategies Inc.;
Graham Fraser, former Commissioner of Official Languages and Visiting Professor, McGill Institute for the Study of Canada.
The chair made a statement.
Ms. Cardinal made a statement and, together with Ms. Sarazin, answered questions.
At 6:18 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 6:20 p.m., the committee resumed.
Mr. Fraser made a statement and answered questions.
At 7:15 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
