The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 4:39 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Kelvin Kenneth Ogilvie, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Eggleton, P.C., Frum, Merchant, Nancy Ruth, Ogilvie, Raine, Seidman and Stewart Olsen (8).
In attendance: Sonya Norris, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, February 23, 2016, the committee began its study on the issue of dementia in our society.
WITNESSES:
Public Health Agency of Canada:
Rodney Ghali, Director General, Centre for Chronic Disease Prevention.
Canadian Institutes of Health Research:
Dr. Yves Joanette, Scientific Director of the CIHR Institute of Aging, Chair of the World Dementia Council.
The chair made a statement.
Dr. Joanette and Mr. Ghali each made a statement and, together, answered questions.
At 6:11 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
