The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met in camera this day at 4:18 p.m., in room 505, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Kelvin Kenneth Ogilvie, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Eggleton, P.C., Merchant, Nancy Ruth, Neufeld, Ogilvie, Petitclerc, Raine, Seidman and Stewart Olsen (9).
In attendance: Sonya Norris, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
The committee considered a draft agenda (future business).
It was agreed that the chair be authorized to seek authority from the Senate for the following order of reference:
"That the Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology be authorized to examine and report on the role of automation in the healthcare system, with a particular focus on robotics, artificial intelligence and 3D printing, in:
- Direct patient healthcare;
- Indirect patient healthcare; and,
- Home healthcare.
That the committee submit its final report no later than December 31, 2017, and that the committee retain all powers necessary to publicize its findings until 180 days after the tabling of the final report.''
At 4:54 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
