The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 4:16 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Kelvin Kenneth Ogilvie, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Boisvenu, Cordy, Cormier, Dagenais, Dean, Eaton, Eggleton, P.C., Mégie, Ogilvie, Omidvar, Petitclerc, Seidman and Stewart Olsen (13).
In attendance: Sonya Norris, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, September 26, 2017, the committee began its study of Bill C-277, An Act providing for the development of a framework on palliative care in Canada.
WITNESSES:
Marilyn Gladu, Member of Parliament for Sarnia–Lambton, sponsor of the bill.
Pallium Canada:
Dr. Jose Pereira, Scientific Officer;
Gerald Savoie, Board Chair.
Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association:
Sharon Baxter, Executive Director (by video conference).
The Chair made a statement.
Ms. Gladu made a statement and answered questions.
At 4:54 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 5 p.m., the committee resumed.
Ms. Baxter, Dr. Pereira and Mr. Savoie each made a statement and answered questions.
At 6:12 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
