The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 5:24 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Chantal Petitclerc, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Dasko, Mégie, Munson, Omidvar, Petitclerc, Poirier, Ravalia and Seidman (8).
In attendance: Sonya Norris, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, October 24, 2018, the committee began its examination of Bill C-243, An Act respecting the development of a national maternity assistance program strategy.

Mark Gerretsen, Member of Parliament for Kingston and the Islands, sponsor of the bill;
Melodie Ballard.
The chair made a statement.
Mr. Gerretsen and Ms. Ballard each made a statement and answered questions.
