The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 4:15 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Chantal Petitclerc, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Deacon (Ontario), Forest-Niesing, Mégie, Omidvar, Petitclerc, Poirier, Ravalia, Seidman and Tannas (9).
In attendance: Sonya Norris, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, November 7, 2018, the committee continued its examination of the subject matter of those elements contained in Divisions 8, 15, 16 and 21 of Part 4 of Bill C-86, A second Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on February 27, 2018 and other measures. The chair made a statement.
Mr. James made a statement and answered questions.
At 4:34 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 4:38 p.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera for the consideration of a draft report.
It was agreed that the senators' staff be permitted to remain in the room for the in camera portion of the meeting.
It was moved that the committee allow the transcription and recording of the in camera portions of today's meeting, that one copy be kept in the office of the clerk of the committee for consultation by committee members present and by the committee analysts, and that the transcript be destroyed by the clerk when authorized to do so by the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, but no later than at the end of this parliamentary session.
The committee considered a draft report on the subject matter of those elements contained in Divisions 8, 15, 16 and 21 of Part 4 of Bill C-86.
It was agreed that the report be adopted.
It was agreed that the chair be authorized to table the report in the Senate.
At 4:48 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
