The Special Senate Committee on the Pearson Airport Agreements met this day, at 9:00 a.m., the Chair, the Honourable Senator Finlay MacDonald (Halifax), presiding.

Members of the Committee present: The Honourable Senators Gigantès, Hervieux-Payette, Jessiman, Kirby, LeBreton, Lynch-Staunton, MacDonald (Halifax) and Tkachuk. (8)

In attendance: John Nelligan, Q.C., Counsel to the Committee.

WITNESSES:

Morning:

From the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and formerly the Department of Transport:

William Rowat, Deputy Minister and former Associate Deputy Minister with the Department of Transport.

From the Department of Transport:

John Desmarais, Senior Advisor to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Airports Group;

Keith Jolliffe, Financial Advisor, Air Navigation Systems Commercialization Project, Aviation Group.

Afternoon:

From Air Canada:

Dominic Fiore (retired) Senior Director, Corporate Real Estate;

David Robinson, Director, Corporate Real Estate;

R. Lamar Durrett, Executive Vice President, Corporate Services;

Cameron Desbois, Vice-President and General Counsel.

The Committee resumed its examination of the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on May 4, 1995. The Clerk of the Committee administered the oath/solemn affirmation and declaration to the witnesses, pursuant to section 13 of the Parliament of Canada Act.

William Rowat, John Desmarais and Keith Joliffe made a statement and answered questions.

At 12:23 p.m., the committee recessed.

At 2:00 p.m., the committee resumed

Dominic Fiore, David Robinson, R. Lamar Durrett and Cameron Desbois made a statement and answered questions.

At 4:42 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
