The Special Committee of the Senate on the Pearson Airport Agreements met this day, at 7:00 p.m., the Chair, the Honourable Senator Finlay MacDonald (Halifax ), presiding.
Members of the Committee present: The Honourable Senators Bryden, Graham, Jessiman, Kirby, LeBreton, Lynch-Staunton, MacDonald, Stewart and Tkachuk. (9)
Other Senator Present: The Honourable Senator Berntson.
In attendance: John Nelligan, Q.C., Counsel to the Committee.
WITNESSES:
From the City of Mississauga:
Hazel McCallion, Mayor;
Larry Petovello, Manager, Special Projects.
The Committee resumed its examination of the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on May 4, 1995.
The Chair having ruled on an issue raised by Senator Bryden on Wednesday September 13, Senator LeBreton appealed the ruling.
The question being put on whether the Chairman's ruling shall be sustained.
The Committee divided as follows:
Yeas 4; Nays 4; Abstained 1
Therefore the ruling was negatived, on division.
The Clerk of the Committee administered the oath/solemn affirmation and declaration to the witnesses, pursuant to section 13 of the Parliament of Canada Act.
Mayor McCallion made a statement and answered questions.
At 8:15 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
